dc.description.abstract-enLearning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) can be challenging for students especially when developing reading comprehension skills. The present study aimed to propose an Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) approach to improve the reading comprehension skills of second level English major students at the Universidad Técnica del Norte, Ecuador. A mixed methods approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data were gathered through survey questionnaires to 30 students and interviews to English teachers to determine learners’ reading difficulties and teachers’ perception on the use of Inquiry-Based Learning in reading instruction. The results showed that Inquiry-Based Learning through questioning, investigation, collaboration and reflection can contribute to the development of reading comprehension skills and at the same time increase students’ engagement and participation in the learning process. These findings served as the basis for the development of a didactic booklet called “Our Amazing Ecuador”, as a pedagogical proposal in support of English teachers in the implementation of inquiry-based activities to strengthen students’ reading comprehension in EFL contexts.es_EC
