| es_EC |

| dc.description.abstract-en | The Ecuadorian education system was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic; one of the most significant changes was the shift in the mode of study from face-to-face to virtual education, in which information and communication technologies (ICTs) and students’ learning conditions had to be rapidly adapted. The objective of this study is to describe the conditions of virtual learning during the pandemic and to determine the level of association between these conditions and the gender and ethnicity of students in the eighth, ninth, and tenth years of basic education. This is a quantitative study with a relational and descriptive scope; the study population comprised 29,344 students. The sample consisted of 1,078 students, who were administered a survey with a reliability level of 0.84 (Cronbach’s alpha). The results show that there is a statistically significant difference between gender and ethnicity in relation to the availability of devices, connectivity, sufficient privacy, and adequate space for studying; however, no statistically significant difference was found regarding the availability of time. It is concluded that the pandemic has revealed major social inequalities among students. With regard to virtual learning conditions, women, Afro-descendant students, and Indigenous students are disproportionately disadvantaged. | es_EC |
