| es_EC |

| dc.description.abstract-en | This article provides a historical review of the situation to which the indigenous peoples of the Ecuadorian inter-Andean corridor have been subjected since the Spanish conquest in the sixteenth century until the present day. This revision is based on scientific publications on different topics, anthropological, sociological, historical, political and legal, to which is added the analysis of original documents since the mid-twentieth century, such as the Agrarian Reforms, Constitutions of 1998 and 2008, the National Development Plans (2007–2021) and all the regulations generated around the indigenous people. The aim of the study is to provide an overview to understand and explain the secular problem of indigenism in Ecuador. Throughout these five hundred years of their history, they have been subjugated and enslaved, ignored and used, subjected to chronic neglect and permanent oppression. In the last decades, after the movements of 1990 and 1994, they have managed to make themselves visible in legislation and revitalise their cultural legacy, however, the ethnic barrier and poverty still persist, especially in rural areas, which is slowing down and hindering their empowerment. | es_EC |
